This is my all-time favorite DIY! I’ve been wanting a giant letter board for quite some time, but couldn’t convince myself to pay the $200+ for similar products I’ve seen online. Sam and I knew we could make it ourselves, and now that we finally did – we want to share how simple this project truly is!
We were able to knock this project out in under 20 minutes without any power tools! Below are the instructions for how I created mine, however, remember the size is completely customizable so, measure your space before heading to Home Depot for supplies.
Supplies
- 3 – 36″ fur strips
- The friendly folks of Home Depot will cut these to length for you. Just ask an associate!
- Plastic Sign Letters
- I used 5″ sign letters in this tutorial.
- Additional options: 6 7/8″ letters, or 8″ letters.
- Scotch Indoor Mounting Tape
- Optional: Stain
DIY
Step 1: OPTIONAL| Stain your Fur Strips
The wood is a natural wood, so depending on the look of your home, you may want to stain the wood to match to overall aesthetic of your home. The wood will need to be completely dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Add Scotch Mounting Tape
While you could easily nail these to the wall, we decided to try something different by simply sticking the boards to the wall. Since the boards themselves are light and we only intend to put letters on them, it simplified the DIY process.
Step 3: Measure and Stick to Wall
Measure the placement of where you intend to put your DIY letter board, and stick to the wall. Hold firmly for 30 seconds. For reference, we spaced our boards around 7″ apart.
Project Cost: $75
The letters themselves took up the bulk of the cost of this project but, overall it’s a great addition to our home and one of my favorite custom pieces.
What would funny sayings would you put on your DIY Letter Board?
