Creating wedding program fans is a simple way to cool your guests down, add your personal touch to your wedding – and maximize your budget!
When Sam and I picked a September wedding, we knew there was a very strong chance it could be extremely hot! Knowing the ceremony was outdoors, we didn’t want our guests to be miserable in the Arkansas heat, so I started looking into wedding program fans online to see what my options were. Let’s just say – I was extremely underwhelmed.
Most of the wedding program fans online were extremely dated, or didn’t match the overall aesthetic of the wedding. I knew at this point, the wedding programs would be a DIY project and I’m so happy with the turnout!

DIY
Step 1: OPTIONAL| Stain your Fan Handles
The fan handles arrive unstained and look great left alone. For this DIY, to complete the overall look and tie together with other elements of our wedding, I decided to stain the handles. Be sure to allow 1-2 hours to dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Fold your Design
I recommend utilizing a full sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ paper as your fans will be a great size and prevent you from having to make any cuts. I found it best to fold and crease the program fan design prior to gluing to ensure the crease was lined up properly.
Step 3: Glue your Program Fan
Line up your fan handle in the middle of one side, and apply a generous amount of glue. Press down firmly. Once completed, apply glue on the back side of the glue stick facing you and around all edges of the paper. Close the program and press down firmly. Let dry.
Easy enough! Your guests will be cooled down – and have another personal element on your wedding day. Leave a comment below and let me know what personal touches you plan to implement on your big day.
